New Goodies Available!

Help support the Sweet Vendetta Blues and New Emperor's Concerto 2nd edition release by getting subscriber goodies on Ko-fi.

It's no secret that publishing takes a lot of time, and can also be rather pricy. I am hoping to offer more options for all of the books, including availability, and other versions (like hardcovers!) and to do so, there will be launching costs.

So I've started offering goodies to anyone who supports me on Ko-fi. There will be new goodies each month, both physical and digital, including sneak peeks of SVB, character art, stickers, prints, bookmarks, and more!

If you are interested, this is what I am offering for July:

Also, I want to point out that this is not actually a monthly subscription. I will just be uploading a different set of goodies each month (for $6) and you will purchase it through the Ko-Fi shop feature. The reason I decided to do this is because I'm not sure if I will continue doing monthly goodies after SVB is published, and I didn't want people to subscribe and then not get something after several months of support. Instead, this gives you the opportunity to support me for whichever month you would like to.

All of these goodies ARE exclusive to my Ko-Fi monthly supporters though and will not be available as swag at a later date; once the month is over, these will not be available anymore.

If you're interested and would like to help support an indie author, you can get your set of July's goodies HERE

The chapters of SVB will be sent out to whatever email you use when you pay on Ko-Fi within a couple days, and the sticker and character cards will be sent out around mid July and then if I get more supporters, another batch at the end of the month.

Thanks for checking this out, and I am really looking forward to sharing more about Blues with you!

The New Emperor's Concerto Sneak Peek!

So, if you've been following me on social media you might have seen me tease a bit about this book, but now that NaNo is over, I am officially starting promotion on it as I'm hoping for a February release.

What is The New Emperor's Concerto about?
The year is 2223 and the world is on the cusp of World War Four. London is rife with anarchists and secret plots. It looks like dark days are coming for the British Empire. Darker than any that have been seen for decades.

But luckily England has some help.

Sir Lysander is the King's Righteous Man-and all that entails. He's the king's right hand, and a red one at that, the man who stands in the shadows and does what needs to be done for the protection of his country.

Eidolon is a phantom, the anarchist group Apophis's top retrieval expert. They need something, he gets it, no matter the consequence. Even though he'd secretly prefer to be in his flat with his cat and a good book.

They've been butting heads for a while, but in times like these loyalties are known to change and right now, any help is good help. They just didn't count on being the only thing standing between England and the start of the next world war.

So if you like futuristic stories with a historical flair, and the good guys and bad guys having to work together to save the world, this is for you.

Sneak Peek

T
he halls were dark, empty and silent, save for his own bootsteps across the industrial tile flooring. Sir Lysander, which was our hero’s name, scanned the area with much scrutiny, looking for anything out of place.
One must be thorough when doing a particular mission for the King after all. And when one held the title of King’s Righteous Man*, that was even more important.
A chirp in his ear reminded him of his companion, waiting with the car. Lysander put a finger to the com so he could better hear the other man’s voice coming through the device.
“Anything of note, sir?”
Lysander stopped at a door that was slightly ajar, and opened it, only to find a broom closet that hadn’t been properly shut. “Not as yet,” he replied, taking it upon himself to close the door properly. “But His Majesty’s concern is my own, of course. And it does seem remarkably silent. Anything to report on your end?”
“The new guard at the gate still hasn’t shown up.”
Lysander considered this. It couldbe something sinister going on, though of course it could also be something as mundane as the new guard getting waylaid by a trip to the loo. “Keep an eye on it.”
Do you wish me to join you?”
“No,” Lysander replied. “Stay with the car. There’s no point in us both being in here if it turns out to be nothing.”
“As you wish, sir.”
Sinclair’s voice cut out and Lysander continued on his way through the research facility, abandoned by its workers for the night, not even a janitor to be found, which, come to think of it, was a bit odd.
He tugged the cuff of his glove down and tapped his wristband causing the display on his watch to come up, showing the time to be nearly 1:30 am. According to the rosters, the perimeter guard should have changed by now. If nothing else, it seemed that Lysander would have a poorly run roster to report to the king in one of London’s rather prestigious research labs.
Lysander turned down the next doorway toward the labs and nearly stumbled over the form laying across his path.
He pulled back, instinctively reaching for the gun at his thigh, before he crouched, turning the figure over.
“Well, there’s the janitor,” he muttered to himself, tapping the com in his ear to activate it as he felt for a pulse, surprised to find the man still alive. “Sinclair, it looks like we might have a spot of trouble after all. I just found the janitor unconscious.”
“I would assume the new guard was likewise waylaid then,”Sinclair replied. “Shall I join you now, sir?”
Lysander smirked a little at the veiled eagerness in his man’s voice. “Watch the door. We don’t want anyone escaping.”
He rose and was about to continue down the hallway, when he heard the sound of breaking glass behind the door closest to him. Lysander drew his pistol, and kicked it in.
This was one of the labs, he saw instantly as he entered, long tables filled with glass and metal, beakers and vials, and things he couldn’t guess the use for. He could see some glass on the floor, but no sign of life.
He stalked into the shadowed room, his dark clothing keeping him hidden save for the metallic glint of the king’s crest he wore on the breast of his waistcoat, telling of his occupation. That, however, was enough for the second man in the room.
A ghostly shape appeared out of the shadows with a roundhouse kick, slamming the gun out of Lysander’s hand.
He leapt back, regaining his footing, and blocked the next punch thrown at him with his forearm, before kicking out and gaining a grunt as his heavy boot connected with his opponent’s hip.
“Intriguing,” Lysander said mockingly. “I was told you were a ghost and had begun to believe it myself with all the times you’ve evaded me in the past. But it seems you are only a man of flesh and blood like all of us. What a disappointment.”
A wicked smirk appeared on the face of the other man as he ducked backwards into a beam of ambient light from a skylight. A shock of unnaturally white hair fell over his pale eyes, giving him an otherworldly look despite his obvious corporality. He gave a small bow.
“What a shame that I must disappoint one such as yourself,” he said. “I must say I am honored that the King would send his very own lapdog after me.”
Lysander lunged forward, and the other man skipped aside as if made of the shadows that crowded the majority of the room. Lysander stumbled into a metal table in his haste, hearing lab equipment crash to the floor. He cursed, wishing he’d had the foresight to bring his night vision gear. He heard a chuckle and spun around to see his opponent standing on another table, a gun in his hand. Lysander marveled at how he had gotten up there so fast and seemingly without any trouble. Perhaps he was a ghost after all.
“So sorry to cut this short, old chap, but I really must be going,” the pale man said and reached up.
Lysander dove for his gun on the floor, only to hear a shot ring out, and send his own weapon skittering across the floor. He leapt back and spun around, seeing the other man grabbing hold of a line with an automatic winch. He saluted Lysander as he was lifting off the floor and through the broken skylight.
Lysander grabbed for his gun one last time and turned to shoot, but by then the man was gone in a flutter of pale coattails and the Righteous Man cursed his bad luck, running for the door and barreling down the hallway to the stairs.
He tapped his com. “Sinclair, he’s on the roof, try to cut him off!”
He didn’t wait for an answer, throwing open the door to the stairs and tearing up them until he came out on the rooftop.
He spun around, gun held at the ready, looking for his escapee.
No one.
“Sinclair, do you have him?”
“I saw no one, sir. I’m sorry.”
Lysander cursed, holstering his gun again. “We lost him.”

*The upper classes have long been known for their penchant for giving things rather ironic titles. So as you can imagine, a man with the illustrious title of “Righteous Man” is most likely anything but.

You can now add it on Goodreads HERE

So, I'm currently working on raising money for a cover artist and the launch (because, starving artist). So I'm going to be doing a book sale this next week with some old books I don't want anymore (More on that later!)

I have also started a Ko-Fi account, which, if you don't know what it is, is sort of a virtual tip jar. You can go on and "buy me a coffee" and it will go toward my goal I've set for the launch. Between that and what I raise for the book sale, I'm hoping to have enough money so that I don't have to pay out of pocket for the cover artist and all the things that go along with the launch of a book. (Swag, giveaway copies, reparation for time spent on social media, etc). Essentially, anything will help out, and Ko-Fi works through PayPal so it's completely safe for all parties.

Eventually, I'm going to set up my Ko-Fi for subscriptions sort of like a Patreon but I'll do that a little closer to the release date and will let you guys know about that then. But it will definitely have some more exclusive perks you will be able to take part in for all of my upcoming projects.

Info about the book sale will be up here on Sunday when the sale starts. I will be sending out invites with the link to anyone who is "friended" to me on Goodreads so if you want to know as soon as the sale is live, you can go add me as a friend on GR. Otherwise, just follow my social media (Instagram and Twitter) for info. I hope to see you there!

Excerpt

Olympus Landscaping was a huge, multi-million dollar business that did jobs all over the country, especially for celebrities and the Hollywood types. And who wouldn’t want their yards done up in such a fantastic way? I might consider it myself if I lived in a clime that could support grass and green things. There were several branches of it open across the country, but this one, near New Olympus, was the one I liked best…for various reasons.

I strolled straight out to the garden, hands in my pockets, enjoying the afternoon sun while I could. I did get tired of the sun easily, but when you hadn’t seen it for weeks on end, even I could be really appreciative of stuff like that.

The garden was so lush and green. Trees gave shade, and flowers spilled out onto the sidewalks in perfectly constructed disarray. The garden culminated into a small courtyard, which was my favorite part, because it had a pond in the middle with a bunch of happy goldfish. I imagined having one of these in the Underworld but figured they would be happier in the sun.

I sat down on the bench near the pond with a contented sigh, and simply closed my eyes and turned my face up toward the sun. Of course, my whole pale body could use some sunlight, but it would look a little strange coming back to the Underworld with a tan. And it wasn’t like I had time to go to the beach either.

I was just enjoying soaking up the sun when I heard a voice.

“Oh, hello. I haven’t seen you around for a while.”

My eyes flew open and saw the girl standing in front of me. She had honey blond hair and green eyes, and a pleasant smile that told of a good nature but also seemed to hold a good sense of humor. She was dressed in a light sundress with green leggings and short fashionable boots with the tops turned down to show her chunky knitted socks. She was also holding a pot of bright pink flowers, completing the breath of fresh air she always was.

Yeah, so I did say that I had other reasons for coming here than to just enjoy the fishpond.

It's here-- NaNoWriMo 2017

So it's that time of year again--caffeination, long hours, and frantic writing to get to your 50,000: NaNoWriMo!

So I wanted to share a little about my project for this year: This is actually a project I've been planning for a couple years now and am super excited to finally get to share it with everyone.

A Vampires Tale is going to be an eventual serial web series in episodic form about a modern day Vampire named Jared Everett as he goes about his life, just trying to make it in today's society.

About:

Jared Everett is just a vampire living in the 21st century and trying to make his way in a world where the humans aren't even as human as the monsters that walk among them. Along with his roommates--A nerdy werewolf, the ghost attached to the apartment trying to finish his thesis, and a demon who's a real lady's man-- and a spunky little girl who just wants to live a real childhood, Jared narrates this satire on society with a good dose of dark humor.

Excerpt:

My name is Jared Everett and I am a vampire.

I guess I’ll start with saying that this is a project I’ve thought about for a while, writing down my, I guess you could almost call it autobiography, but it’s more like a journal really, of some of my trials living as a vampire in 21st century America. It’s really not glamorous like they show in all these stupid books and movies that everyone loves so much. It’s not even about feuding with werewolves and running from hunters. My best friend and roommate is a werewolf and I have never seen a legit hunter, and no fake ones outside of Halloween or nerdy horror conventions. We live nine to five lives just like the average human and try to stay under the radar as much as possible. Pretty much just normal. No glamour, mainly just boredom.

Let’s get a few things straight first because I’m sure you have some questions. First off, no, I do not sparkle like a disco ball, nor do I have cute hair and good fashion sense. My hair is always messy and I wear worn jeans and boots and usually a button-up and t-shirt or plain sweater. My skin is pale, yeah, put it doesn’t look like I covered myself in my six-year-old sister’s body glitter.

Fangs? They pop up when I need them, but I can smile in public without scaring old ladies and children.

Sunlight? I burn easily, I wear sunglasses when I’m outside and long sleeves since I don’t get hot or cold, kind of a perk of being undead, or whatever the kids are calling it these days. But no, I don’t burn to a crisp. SPF 100 is always a good call if nothing else.

Experienced? (aka ancient creeper in an 18-year-old’s body who still goes after girls his death-age) Nope, not unless you want to call the 90s ancient. I’m a baby vamp, only turned about ten years ago, still stuck in a 23-year old body, but that’s cool right? At least I beat acne before it happened.
Garlic? Delicious on pizza; only keeps me away if you breathe in my face.

Wooden stakes? Yes, those do actually work, as well as a machete to the neck. It’s a two-step process but don’t tell anyone that. Stoker was pretty darn accurate.

Coffin? No one sleeps in coffins but weird emo freaks. Dracula probably just liked to feel cozy. Or maybe he was just a Victorian goth.

Grave dirt? I don’t know about that one. I wasn’t buried, I never died—just un-died or whatever.
And for the question everyone probably wants to know: Do I drink blood? Yep, I am a vampire, that sort of defines my kind, but that doesn’t mean I also don’t enjoy a bacon cheeseburger or a slice of pie on occasion either. But, I have tried to go vegan.

And by vegan, I mean, I only eat vegans.

What else do you think would possess me to work at a vegan café?

Okay, so it might seem a little callous, but I have to eat too, and they are healthier for vampires even if they do taste like wheatgrass and soy. Studies (by obscure vampire scientists that only a few of us know about) have shown that by ‘going vegan’ as a vamp, you can sort of wean yourself off blood, not need it as much. As long as you supplement it with lots of red meat, which I was not at all unhappy about. Besides, I found a certain irony to it. They didn’t like to eat meat, yet I ate them. Joke’s on them. I mean, in reality, grass eaters are at the bottom of the food chain, right? If you don’t eat meat, you’re practically asking for it.

Unfortunately, no one in the universe could understand what I have to go through just to get a meal. Another reason I decided to write this down. I hope to enlighten the common reader about the underground supernatural world that exists that isn’t actually so underground after all, and isn’t just out to eat you or cause problems. Unless you’re a vegan, of course. We typically, just try to live lives like normal people.

He took the horse off the street into a smith’s shop. Ædyn tagged at his heels like a shadow. The shop was open-faced to catch the breeze off the water, but there were coals smoldering on the wide, open hearth, the heat curling off the hearthstones and hanging heavy on the air under the leather awning. The smith was bare-chested at his anvil. He saw Torien across the anvil and put his hammer down and wiped his dripping face with the back of one hand. He pulled his tunic over his head as he came over to the doorway. He bowed, but he was looking at the black horse. “You will want him shod, Lord, if you mean to use him in the city.”

“He won’t be long for the city. I came for this.” Torien reached with his free hand for the lead tag hung on the collar around Ædyn’s neck. He indicated it to the smith, running his thumb over the name etched on the face of the tag. “It can be amended?”

“It is a simple thing, Lord.”

“My name is Risto. I want it to read thus.”

“For a bronze, Lord.”

He explained to Ædyn, in Cesino, “For your protection, until I can file your manumission.”

The boy looked as though he had been struck across the face. His skin was pale under the tan. “My lord is the governor’s son.”

“My mother told him so, anyway. Listen to me, Ædyn. I’ve business in the city. I shouldn’t be long—an hour, maybe two. I’ll be back for you here.”

The boy did not say anything. He was standing as rigid as death at the horse’s shoulder.

Torien put two bronze pieces into Ædyn’s hand and closed the boy’s fingers over them. “Buy yourself something to eat,” he said. “Don’t stray too far. These streets can be rough.”
