Q&A With Bryce

Tell us a little about your new book

The Reading Buddy is a YA horror/thriller that is reminiscent of the teen horror novels from the early 90s. It is also about someone overcoming social anxiety. The more I worked on it, the more I came to like the main character.

Where did you get the idea for The Reading Buddy?

I've wanted to write a book like this for a while. The initial idea for the book was that the main character would have a reading buddy that becomes obsessed with him. I then decided that Blake, the protagonist, would suffer from social anxiety. I took those two ideas and put them together. As I was writing it, the story went in directions that I hadn't planned on. The ending is pretty crazy.

Give us five words that describe your novel

I would say that the novel is fun, thrilling, surprising, scary, and I hope meaningful.

What makes you most excited about your book’s release?

I can't wait to see what people think of this book. It's different. I was shooting for a fun kind of horror novel combined with a more serious character study. I hope that I was able to pull it off.
